KPT is a Swiss health insurer based in Bern that provides compulsory basic health insurance (Grundversicherung) and supplementary health insurance across Switzerland. KPT was founded in 1890 as a health fund for Swiss railway employees and is a cooperative holding, with KPT Krankenkasse AG and KPT Versicherungen AG as its main companies.
KPT insures around 500,000 people and has offices in Bern, Zurich, Givisez and Lugano. KPT's supplementary range includes semi-private or private hospital cover with free choice of contract hospital and doctor, outpatient cover of up to CHF 4,000 a year for prevention and complementary medicine, and dental cover. KPT members can also reach a doctor through the DoctorChat telemedicine service.
